Paul Welsh has acted as the historian for Elstree Studios since the 1970s and for 37 years has written a weekly column for the local press on the subject of the studios. Paul was awarded an MBE in 1997 for chairing a 8 year campaign to save Elstree Studios 1988-1996 and was chair of Elstree Studios Partnership Ltd from 1996-2000 during which time the studio was reopened, refurbished and expanded. His knowledge of all the studios in Elstree & Borehamwood, built up since his first childhood visit in 1960 and his role of chair of Elstree Screen Heritage resulted in the University of Herts awarding him an hon Master of Arts degree.
